Afraid to Speak

Once there was a boy named Timmy who loved school and learning new things. However Timmy was very shy and didn’t like to speak in front of other people.  One day, when the teacher asked a question in class, Timmy knew the answer, but he didn’t raise his hand. He didn’t want to say the answer when the teacher asked a question because he was afraid to talk. He felt bad.

Timmy’s teacher saw he was upset and talked to him. She said never be afraid to speak.  Timmy told her that he was afraid he might be wrong.  He was scared the other students might make fun of him.  So, the teacher said that it’s ok to make mistakes because we learn from them. Timmy thought about what she said and knew he missed a chance to learn something new. He decided to speak up more in class and be brave.

The next day, Timmy’s teacher asked a question and Timmy spoke up right away. He got the answer right and the class clapped for him. Timmy felt happy and proud.  From then on, Timmy always spoke up and answered questions. He learned that it’s important to be brave and share what you know, even if you might make a mistake.
